Our Story : Superfood Bar Co. Origins

At Superfood Bar Co., everything starts with a love for bold, nourishing food — and a deep respect for where it comes from. Our roots trace back to the food culture of New Orleans and to the days our founder, Joseph, spent on his family’s organic farm, where meals were made from scratch with whatever the season had to offer.

He grew up roasting corn in the fire pit, cooling melons in the spring, and learning that real food begins with a respect for nature and its rhythms. Those early experiences shape how we think about food — not just as something to eat, but as something to care about.

In 2010, after the BP oil spill devastated the Gulf Coast, Joseph opened Superfood Bar — the first vegan and organic restaurant in Louisiana. It was, in part, a response to a broken food system: a way to serve nourishing, sustainable meals using only whole ingredients. Everything was prepared from scratch. We used exclusively biodegradable packaging long before it became standard, and we cut out refined sugars, flours, and emulsifiers from the kitchen entirely. This is where Eva joined the team, bringing an international background and a sharp, intuitive sense of taste that helped shape the flavor profile and creative direction of the kitchen.

That same philosophy lives on in our hot sauces. These aren’t gimmicks — they’re rich, fermented, and full of real flavor. A single drop can turn a simple dish into something layered and deeply satisfying. Packed with enzymes, minerals, and vitamin C, they’re like culinary armor for everyday cooking. Most of our ingredients are organic and locally sourced, and we make everything using low-emission, small-batch methods — techniques that haven’t changed much in thousands of years.

Now based in Berlin, we craft each batch by hand — blending traditional methods with fresh ideas and a shared love for food that feels good, tastes amazing, and supports the planet. At Superfood Bar Co., we’re part of a larger movement: a rethinking of food, and a reconnection with ancient knowledge. Our cave-drawing-inspired logo is a nod to the timeless tools and wisdom we still rely on today to make these exceptionally delicious and nourishing products.
